As June marks the halfway point of 2025, it’s the perfect moment for companies to pause and reflect on their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. DE&I is an ongoing journey, you can’t just set goals once and hope for the best. Similar to when you set work goals and personal goals, It’s about staying engaged, adjusting your course, and keeping your commitment to creating an inclusive workplace alive and evolving.

Why a Mid-Year DE&I Check-In Matters
Taking time to check in on your DE&I efforts helps you:
✅ Celebrate your wins and reinforce what’s working.
✅ Spot gaps or blind spots that may have emerged.
✅ Realign your goals with today’s realities and future needs.
✅ Build trust by showing that DE&I is an active, ongoing priority.

5 Steps to a Meaningful Mid-Year DE&I Check-In

1. Revisit Your DE&I Goals
Start by revisiting the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Ask yourself:

  • Are these goals still relevant?

  • Are they realistic based on what we know today?

  • Do they align with our current business needs and employee expectations?

2. Examine the Data
Data is a crucial tool for measuring progress. Check key metrics such as:

  • Representation across teams and leadership roles.

  • Employee engagement and belonging scores.

  • Retention and promotion rates for underrepresented groups.
    Also consider qualitative insights from employee feedback and lived experiences.

3. Gather Feedback from Employees
Numbers don’t tell the whole story. Create opportunities through surveys, listening sessions, or one-to-one conversations for your employees to share:

  • How included and valued they feel.

  • What’s working and what’s missing.

  • Ideas and suggestions for new initiatives or resources.

4. Celebrate Progress and Acknowledge Gaps
Take time to highlight successes, even small wins. Have a day or afternoon dedicated to your progress, or sharing employee stories. Recognition fuels momentum and engagement. At the same time, be transparent about areas where progress hasn’t matched expectations, honest conversations are the foundation of real change. 

5. Reset and Refocus Your Goals
Based on what you’ve learned, consider:

  • Adjusting your original goals to better meet current needs.

  • Creating short-term mini-goals for the next 6 months to stay nimble and focused.

  • Communicating these updates clearly with your teams to keep everyone aligned and accountable.
