At Unify, diversity of thought sits at the heart of everything we do. As a purpose-led recruitment and talent advisory business, we work closely with organisations who recognise that inclusive cultures lead to better outcomes for both people and business.

Each year, we take time as a team to map out key Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, cultural, religious and awareness dates that we feel it’s important to recognise, reflect on, and create space for across the year. From this, we build our own month-by-month DEI calendar, designed as a practical resource to support meaningful conversations, internal initiatives and wider DEI activity.

Rather than treating DEI as a one-off campaign or a reactive conversation, a yearly calendar helps organisations approach inclusion with intention, consistency and impact.

Why a DEI calendar is such a powerful tool

A well considered DEI calendar can:

  • Support inclusive internal communications and campaigns

  • Encourage learning, curiosity and open dialogue

  • Help teams plan ahead rather than react last minute

  • Create space for under-represented voices and experiences

  • Reinforce a culture where people feel seen, heard and valued

Most importantly, it shifts DEI from being something organisations talk about to something they actively embed into everyday working life.

Examples of bringing the calendar to life

A DEI calendar isn’t about simply posting dates it’s about using them as conversation starters, education and moments for reflection.

Here are a few examples of how organisations might use different moments across the year:

January – Holocaust Memorial Day
A chance to reflect on the importance of remembrance, education and standing against hatred in all its forms.

February – LGBT+ History Month
An opportunity to spotlight LGBTQ+ voices, share stories, and celebrate progress while recognising ongoing challenges.

March – International Women’s Day
A moment to recognise achievements, explore gender equity, and consider how organisations can better support women’s progression and inclusion.

September – National Inclusion Week (UK)
A great time to review current DEI initiatives, gather feedback, and recommit to creating inclusive environments.

October – Black History Month (UK)
An opportunity to celebrate Black history, heritage and contribution, and to amplify under-represented voices.

These moments can be supported through internal communications, learning sessions, panel discussions, employee stories, charity partnerships or simple awareness raising activities.

It’s a guide, not a tick-box exercise

DEI is complex and ever evolving. No calendar will ever capture every important date, and that’s okay. What matters most is the intent behind it, creating space for learning, listening and continuous improvement.

We see our calendar as a living resource, something to be revisited, refined and shaped through conversation.
